Paraeducator Development
January 2016

The Paraeducator Work Group is recommending some changes to the way paraeducators are hired and trained in Washington state. In June of 2014 the Legislature passed Substitute Senate Bill 6179 which authorized Professional Educators Standards Board to convene a work group to make recommendations from a set of design requirements. After 18 months of convening experienced paraeducators, teachers, school administrators, parents and experts from community and technical colleges and higher education to provide input, the Work Group is releasing their final report to the legislature on January 10, 2016.
